A credit card is a plastic card with a magnetic strip or embedded microchip issued by a financial institution which allows the cardholder to purchase goods and services without using cash. Credit cards differ from debit cards in that debit cards may only be used so long as your bank account has the necessary funds in it, whereas a credit card entitles the cardholder to make purchases using money they do not necessarily have, up to a predetermined limit called the credit limit. Unlike debit cards which generally have no or a low monthly fee, the cost of using a credit card largely depend on the amount of revolving credit the cardholder is carrying. Credit cards may come with an interest-free grace period which so long as the entire credit card balance is repaid within, no additional monthly fees will be incurred above the annual fee there may be for having a particular credit card (generally $0 to $150).
